Chi Mai Video

Postby Phil McGarrick » 19 May 2014, 18:30

From The Shadows album “Compact Shadows” An Instrumental cover of Chi Mai which is Italian for "who ever". Written by Ennio Morricone for the movie "Maddalena”

Played on my Alan Brason Strat with Kinman FV-HMS pickups on bridge position.

The Backing track came from Ian McCutcheon’s workout 10 CD available here :-

The Tabs are available from Tony Clout here :-
http://www.tabman.co.uk/complete-tab-list.htm

Sound recorded using Alesis Quadraverb Q2 with EFTP echoes from the past patch 0-36 into soundcard and Cubase on the computer (no amp used) Dunlop DVP 1 foot pedal.
Video made using 3 x Sony SR12's and edited with the Cubase sound in Sony Vegas video editing software.

Hope you like “Chi Mai”

Cheers Phil

Lovely playing Phil!
Not my favourite Shads track but beautifully executed.
Those high speed upper register runs must have been a b---r to learn!!
Great tone from those Kinmans too.
Loved the way you taped the music to your camera tripod. Priceless!

Cheers

Hi Ian,
Many thanks for the nice comments -
Yes those runs were a bit of a b---r to play - Hank makes it sound easy until you come to try it :(
I leant most of it from the Tabs so printed them off and sellotaped them to the tripods

Hi Gary - Thank you very much for commenting - The 0-36 patch is standard no mods - added a bit of compression and EQ in cubase maybe it's that which makes it sound different to yours.

All the best... Phil

Hi Lynn - I wouldn't of known it unless I had the Shads album with it on.
But when you look on YouTube there are many versions of it from classical to Rock ! Lol
Thank you very much for your nice comments always appreciated.

Hi Rich and Ma-Lou - thanks for looking in and the nice comments - Colston hall Bristol yes I've seen the Shads play there many times great venu ! -
I've painted the back side of the fence but left the front for you as I know you're dying to paint it.
The yearly airing of the shorts just had to be done as global warming hit Gloucester on monday - I've put in a request for good weather for when you come over - Looking forward to it.!

Hi Fred - Thank you for your nice comments on this one which are very much appreciated..

All the best.. Phil

There are few positions for PUP selection on a Strat, it may be an idea to perhaps select a more suitable combination other than bridge PUP only. It's a melodic melody requiring a less strident tone. The other selections don't seem to get used much with other players either--I constantly move around the selector on all my guitars--particularly blues stuff
