Dancing in the Dark. (Video)

Postby Phil McGarrick » 18 Mar 2014, 14:09

This is my cover of a track from The Shadows “Moonlight Shadows” album released in 1986
An Instrumental version of the Bruce Springsteen vocal first released in 1984.

I used my Alan Brason Strat with Kinman FV-HMS pickups on the bridge position.
Alesis Quadraverb Q2 patch 0-36. Into Cubase on the computer via the external sound card (No Amp)

The backing track was sent to me by a friend Ross in Australia – To avoid the fade out ending he used the ending from “The Savage”.

Hope you like “Dancing in the Dark”

Cheers Phil

Hi Phil
After hearing that Impersonator Strat a few times now its quite clear how different the FVs sound.
Great job as usual from you and full marks to Ross for the BT.
Playing is spot on as normal and the little Hank "runs" are very smooth.
Giving Andy a run for his money with the mixing - everything sounds good.
Clever idea to use The Savage ending. Its a bit abrupt (especially if you KNOW the original by The Shads) but it does the job well.
Another Winner.
cheers

Hi Ian,
Yes the Impersonators and the FV-HMS Kinmans do sound different especially on the Bridge pickup.
It's nice having both depending on the song.
Yes Andy has been unwell this week so I thought it was about time I had a go at the mixing.
Ross sent me the BT with "The Savage" ending as a bit of a joke as he hates fading endings -
I don't think he thought I would actually use it. Still saves learning Hanks improvisations at the end.

Thanks Robby,
Ross who made the BT used the Intro from the original and the ending from The Savage.
The bit in between I believe is a doctored Karaoke BT modified to make it the same as the Shadows arrangement.
Many thanks for the nice comment.
