Son of a Preacher Man. (Marvin at the Movies)

Son of a Preacher Man was a 1968 hit for Dusty Springfield.
It was used in the 1994 film Pulp Fiction.
Hank Marvin included his instrumental version in the “Marvin at the Movies” album
Released on 3rd April 2000

My version is using the same Backing that Hank used for his track.

I used my Fender custom 56NOS fitted with Kinman Impersonator 54 V3 pickups on the bridge position plus a small amount of distortion from my Carl Martin “Plexi Tone” pedal to match the sound Hank had on his recording.

Hi John - Thanks for the nice comments - I left out the long fading ending that Hank put in on his original because it sounded like he was ad-libbing and it's hard to copy someone else's ad libs (That's my excuse ) I doubt Hank would have played that ending the same twice in a row. Fair play to Tony Clout for the hard work in tabbing it out must have been a mission!

Being a bit of a different style to most of Hanks songs I thought It won't be everyone's cup of tea.

Greetings from deepest Zummerzet, maestro. WiFi a bit shakey in these parts hence delay in getting signal that would run YT.
Worth the hassle though. This is one I would have never attempted like /"Windmills" from same album.
You do a stunning job on it and even on these titchy speakers the guitar sound is superb.

Hi Ian Yes that was a "Phew" of relief at the end after 8 previous failed attempts Kept forgetting what comes next !
It's a bit of a Marmite song you either love it or hate it. I personally think Hank came up with some great riffs in the solo's
takes a long time to get them in your head though.

cracking post yet again, I love watching your videos you bring the sound of the marvin at the movies album to life, its great to see how they were played.

would like to hear this one with your other strat as I think the kinmans you have in that have a slightly different tone exactly like hanks was using for the album, I think the ones you have for this one have a different tone but none the less the video playing etc was brilliant well done.

Hi Steve,
I think you're right about the tone of the pickups - the Impersonators are designed for the Older Shads sound the FV-HMS on the bridge pickup is what Hank used I believe on the newer ones. They do sound different.
