HEY JUDE from MOONLIGHT SHADOWS

Postby Stratpicker » 27 Feb 2014, 16:44

My favourite tune from “Moonlight Shadows” CD, IMO the best of their “covers” albums.
Paul Macartney wrote this tune in 1968 for Julian Lennon, then only a kid, to cheer him up after the breakup of Johns marriage to Cynthia, but after playing it for him, he changed the title from “Hey Jules” to “Hey Jude” as it scanned better.
The Critics (A Pocket Guide To Shadow Music for example) were rather scathing of The Shadows treatment of the tune but I think the arrangement by Cliff Hall is tunefully different, has some lovely chords in it and lent itself well to Hanks ballad guitar technique.
The BT is from Ian McCutcheons superb new CD - “Shadows Workout 18”.
I've been playing guitar again since 2004 so have only been waiting 10 years for this backing track to come out! 'Bout time too!
Brason Strat, as usual, on Kinman FVs, Zoom2000EFTP Patch 18, Korg Ampworks sim AC30 twin cab, straight to Cakewalk GTPro2. Simples!

I hope you like it.

Hi Bakey and Ecca
Yes - Cliff Hall put all them there fancy chords in. The BT is a dead ringer to the one on the CD.
Mr McCutcheon did a grand job.
Thanks Jase. I might play it in March at Warwick.

Cheers

Hi Ian - 10 years practicing came into it's own ! You did a BRILLIANT job on this
loads of feeling in the playing, some great "Hankisms" and subtle use of the swell pedal.
Great BT from Ian M too.
I really enjoyed this... Cheers Phil

Lovely phrasing on this Ian - and a nice bit of attitude on some note attacks too... It makes a big difference to the feel of the tune. Your timing is great - something that is often overlooked a lot... I loved it.

My best to you,

Tony.
