Even though Gege's version is very close, I think Abel's is even closer.
Based solely on these two videos, I would say that the original Atlantis was played on the Strat.

So that's settled then. It was a Gretsch after all!

Iain,

Ah, you might just be on to something there! After all, the 'Man Himself' has recorded using many different guitars has he not? ;)

There was a fight Tony. Burns (post #36) against (Strat (post #37) . . . the only problem is no one, except me, bothered to comment on the winner.

I think Strat Bojan as well but the Burns sound is also very convincing !

Well if the sound is spot on by Gege is a thread on it's own. ;)
But the conclusion it was a Marvin, because the sample of Gege sounds like the original .....
It's well known that the 40th anniversary Marvin's like the one gege's use,is more voiced like a strat, instead of a original Marvin.
I have 4 marvin's (incl a 40th AM)and also two Marquee's and 12 strats and about 15 other guitars, believe me the 40th and both marquee's sounds more towards a strat... some even exact as one of my 12 strats.
My UK custom build greenburst marvin sounds exact like my original 65 marvin..... it's only louder, but the soundspectrum is exactly the same.
The 40th AM has diffrent wood for neck and body....the rez-O-tubes are diffrent etc

So if people conclude Gege's sound like the original with his 40th AM ,they say at the same time it was a strat

Tin hat in place ;)

Have you checked out the Atlantis played on a Strat that I posted on Jan 16th?
