Hi Peter,
I have one of the 1996 Fender Japan Hank Marvin Signature Strat models. It's an excellent guitar & very well made, as you would expect from the Japanese. It is Ash-bodied & has Alnico-magnet pickups. It is a little on the heavy side & has a super Maple neck/fingerboard. I have upgraded it with Fender Custom Shop '54 pickups & gold hardware, but that is just my preference. I believe it was a Ltd. edition model at the time. My serial no. is V028755. You can see it in my Avatar to the right of this message.
Tony.

Hi Peter,
I have just bought a Hank Marvin Signature - crafted in Japan - and am very pleased with it. Regards serial number perhaps this link will help, my serial number is A + 6 digits which was made in 97/98. If the guitar starts with a 0 according to Fender Website - this was made in 93/94 here is the link if you want to go and look at the serial numbers.

Hi,
I've an "A" serial number CIJ Marvin, they made two runs both of 500 guitars,
A was 1997, the second batch, the first batch was made in 1996 and had serial numbers
starting with "V".
The 1996 guitars are marked "Made in Japan" and the 1997 "Crafted In Japan".
The one I have sounds great and is very heavy (about 10Lbs)
