Today, the 17th of June 2010 marks the 50th anniversary of The Shadows' recording session, which started their own international stardom: on the 17th of June 1960, The Shadows recorded their 4th single (the 2nd under the name "The Shadows") "Apache" / "Quatermasster's Stores".
The rest, as they say, is history.

Happy Birthday - Apache!!!
Little would they have known when recording this track, just what an enduring impact it would have around the world.
One of (if not the most) influential guitar instrumentals of all time?
Certainly one of my favourites. I never tire of listening to it.
Experiencing it played live again at a CR and The Shadows Final Reunion concert was just out of this world!
Rave over.
Cheers,
JB

Cliff did play a "Chinese drum" on Apache and lended his Gibson J200 to Bruce for this recording, so he has to be thanked too !

Also, on this same date, but 33 years later, so 17 years ago, in 1993, Hank re-recorded "Wonderful Land" and "Nivram" at Abbey Road Studios together with Mark Knopfler for his last solo single to date and (in case of the former track) his great 6th solo album "Heartbeat".

Was it true that this was a make or break session for The Shadows, another flop and the Recording contract ends?.

It's a masterpiece - and masterfully played. To think they were still teenagers is just amazing.
I never tire of hearing it.
