Hi Rover, well, first of all, I am not at all qualified to answer your question because both my Brason "Strat" and my Apache have maple necks and fingerboards and so I cannot make any comparisons. I generally prefer maple fingerboards, which is why I asked Barry to fit my Apache with a maple board. On the other and, my Rickenbacker has a maple neck with rosewood fretboard because that is what they come with, and I'm fine with it. The Marvins also come with rosewood boards, so again, the noiseless Apaches are altogether different because they will have ebony boards. There are lots of great guitars with ebony fretboards, I believe Gibson uses ebony for many of its Les Paul and perhaps other models . . . There is a slight tonal difference for these different woods, but given all the other variables, from amps, strings, effects, and so on, which are available today, I think it comes down to what you think looks best or feels best, or both -- if you have a choice. If you do not have a choice, then it's even easier.
Hope this helps.
