Jay Bass:

Have you tried the Rotosound black nylon tape-wound strings?

In the mid-to-late sixties, Baldwin were offering two sets of bass-strings, flatwound and nylon flat-wound, and I'm fairly sure that the Shadows Bass came equipped with the nylon-clad set. Of course, that doesn't guarantee a Rostill-type tone.

All Burns / Baldwin strings were made by the company now known as Rotosound. I think their nylon set is called "Tru-Bass".

mine was fitted with Daddario chromes ECB82 flats from new
i did try thomastik flats la bella flats and fender flats but reverted back to the original chromes as i thought they gave the bass a better John Rostill type tone.

i use thomastiks and la bella flats on my p basses , but they just didnt seem to give me the Rostill tone.on the Burns bass.

Thanks Jay Bass...
I suspect this one still has the Daddario chromes, as it's hardly been used:
Not an expert on strings, but whatever they are I like them! They are certainly much smoother (less ridged) than the strings on my P-bass.
Thanks again.

Hi Jim
ive used the rotosound Tru Bass Black Nylon flats on a Jazz bass , never tried them on the burns
They sounded pretty good on the jazz for 50's 60's style of music .
