I was going to buy a compensated nut just to try out, but was put off when I saw the prices! So I might have a go at making one instead.
Although of course, everybody knows (or should) that the most important nut on a guitar is the one standing behind it.

It's mostly curable by cutting the nut slots spot on. Not many guitars come set up in that area and a little tweaking can do wonders.
However, I don't recommend taking out the file unless you are good at it, or are prepared to lose a few nuts.

Dave,
Last time I've seen a player with a compensated nut, had the highest frets I've ever seen... it looked like xxl jumbo's
His grip on the neck/strings was so fears you could hear the moment he touched the strings and fretted ....the pitch got higher and got real sharp!
So down the drain the effect of the expensive nut!
I ask him why the high fret-wire....he told me he liked to have a scalloped neck, but was reluctant to take a rasp and sandpaper, so he toke the high fret route....
I didn't bother to tell him, Richie and Ingwie have a very light touch and almost fly over their strings.
Cheers Rob

The "A" on the G string seems to be the biggest issue.
Question is - "Why don't they fit compensated Nuts to all new guitars"? Can't be that much of a production issue or cost.
Earnie Ball Music Man developed their own Compensating nut and it is fitted to all their range.

IS it really worth it? A compensated nut won't correct wrong notes
By the way I just checked my Roadhouse Strat. Seems a compensated nut is not needed at all
I did look at Earnie Ball site - Am I I correct in that they don't do any for Strats?
One other thing - I use 9's - and find the 6th string bridge setting on both my Strats need to be fully screwed up for correct intonation. Almost need to take the spring out or reduce the turns.

They don’t appear to be needed on any of my Strats either Stuart, I don’t know if they are worth it, just replying to the question “ why they don’t fit them to new guitars.?” Earnie Ball do, my Music Man stays in tune very we’ll all along the fretboard so as it is there it ain’t doing any harm.
