Jack Good - Mr "Oh Boy!"

Postby Iain Purdon » 26 Sep 2017, 19:42

I wouldn't normally post something like this without confirmation from any of the mainstream media but people who were there, and should know, are saying that Jack Good has died. This was the clincher for me

We owe this man so much. The fame of Hank, Bruce, Jet, Tony, Brian and Licorice was all in part due to Jack Good.

Yes, it appears he died on Sunday. Popular music owes him a great deal.

What sad news! Lovely tribute from Cliff. Cliff once said that TV made Cliff and the Drifters...and that was down to Jack Good. If he hadn't flipped Schoolboy Crush and told Cliff to perform Move it!... And he made the incredibly cool film of The Shadows playing Apache which has had 3m hits on YouTube...

Thank you Iain for posting this up its well that a lot of us can remember those early days of the introduction of
the new music TV programmes back then put together and produced by people like Jack Good.

Jack Good (7 August 1931 – 24 September 2017) was a pioneering British former television producer, musical theatre producer, record producer, musician and painter of icons. As a television producer, he was responsible for the early music showsSix-Five Special, Oh Boy!, Wham! and Boy Meets Girls TV series, the first UK teenage music programmes. Good managed some of the UK's first rock and roll stars, including Tommy Steele, Marty Wilde, Billy Fury, Jess Conrad and Cliff Richard.

For those of you who were disappointed with the lack of media coverage regarding the passing of Jack Good this has been partially rectified in the obituary section of today's Daily Telegraph. It is, as expected, an interesting read.

I really like The Rapier's tribute song "Jack's Good". Captures the early 60s sound very well.

These days, it is free access, but you need to set up a username and password.

RIP - A real maverick, frustrated actor by all accounts and very much his own man.
