Various eTap2HW Units - Sound Test Poll

Postby GuitarPhil » 06 Aug 2013, 21:46

Hi all, I'd appreciate it if you could take the time to visit http://echotapper.wordpress.com/ and cast your vote in a poll I have set up to help compare the sounds of my three slightly different incarnations of the eTap2HW design. After you have voted, you may want to read the post that explains the differences in the three units, but please listen to the files and vote first, as I want an unbiased opinion, if such a thing is possible ;-)

Hi Phil, I chose 'c' but would have liked the tone of 'B' mixed with it ( B had a bit more early sound)

The problem I normally find (like Keith it seems) is that the best sound when given multiple choices, always seems to be a mixture of 2 or 3 of them :?

Hi Phil
It's B for me. Would have preferred the test to have been done without reverb added though.
Cheers.

There's no doubt that all such tests are very subjective as everyone has their own idea of what sounds good. That's why guitarists are seemingly always on the hunt for the 'perfect' tone and why amplifier and effects makers are always rubbing their hands with glee :D

However, there is a consensus building up in regard to my recordings but I'll wait until all the votes are in before revealing all ;)

Thanks to everyone who has contributed so far.

I can't say I'm blown away by any of them when comparing with the original tone on the record.
That said my hearing is damaged at the moment thanks to the chemotherapy.

Dave, Agreed, they definitely don't manage to get the tone of the original recording but then neither did Hank, for example, on the Final Tour DVD.

There are a lot of other factors, apart from the eTap2 echo, that would be necessary to get right to obtain the recorded sound. I just wish I could figure out what they are :(

Best wishes to you for a full recovery.

hello Phil, :D

Hank has now what we call a modern(new) sound, it seems he likes it but its not my choice.
I have done the poll, we will see what comes out of it.
Beside the etap you must have a good sounding strat and amp, my concertorama valve meazzi amp gives me the vintage sound that i like so much, its not a big secret, it has 2 italian alnico bulldog speakers inside.

all the best, tonio 8-)
