No joy in finding a 12Vac PSU at RS. Out of stock and not due in until end of July !!! http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/plug-in-power-supply/7300237/. Anyone any suggestions as the Echo is sat there doing nothing until I can find a PSU.

I may have missed something, but I'm sure I got mine from Maplins for about £12 - 15.

Roger, that one supplies only 500mA and IIRC Ecca recommended a 1.6A supply. It has to drive the valve heaters so it may take a fair amount of current. Ecca will be able to confirm if this one will suffice - it's certainly a lot cheaper than the out of stock RS jobbie!

Yes Eric specifies >1amp and as you say driving the YuangJing 6N3 board's pre-amp valves heaters in the unit would need surplus current re amperage so that heat doesn't become a problem with the supply.

I'm thinking of putting in a transformer with 12v AC output with sufficient amperage and inputing to a male 3 pin C16 in the chassis case which I've got lying around. Mains straight in then. There's plenty of room in the enclosure to accommodate one. Would that be a problem Eric?

500ma is no good.
Be careful where you position a transformer, keep it away from the pre-amp input.
Be also careful as to transformer quality, hums can come from nowhere, toroidal is best.

Infinitely simpler, and safer to keep it all outside.

In viewing the power supplies at Maplins it seems the prices have gone crazy.
Lord knows why.

Here's another.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AC-AC-MAINS-POWER-ADAPTOR-SUPPLY-CHARGER-PSU-1A-1AMP-1000MA-12V-12-VOLT-2-1MM-/121288054559?pt=UK_ConsumerElectronics_PowerAdaptors_SM&hash=item1c3d54d71f

Thanks Eric for the links. Of course you're right in saying transformer noise/interferance could be a problem to circuitry and keeping a supply outboard is the better option. I was getting brassed off trying to find a PSU 12v AC >1000ma. As Jock said Maplins do one but Donny was a no go and the price !!!!

Anyhow it's now sorted thanks to ebay.
