Etap Kit Or PCB?

Postby sausage fingers » Tue Mar 25, 2014 6:11 pm

Thinking along the lines of building the ETAP,just wondering the best way to go with this...i have quite a stock of electronic components. Is it best to buy the kit or is a PCB only available?
Whats available/involved....
Thanks
Rob :D

I don't think the pcb is available separately. The supplier for the kits is Newtone Winkel in the Netherlands

http://www.newtone-online.nl/

but they don't list it on their website so you'll need to email them team@newtone-online.nl

They are also the source for the SKRM-C8-ETAP2 module programmed by Piet Verburggen. You should check out Piet's Echotapper blog for details of the project including schematics of the circuit.

The motherboard kit is 33 euros and the module is 32 euros (the last time I checked).

I'd buy the kit. There's nothing unusual about the components but it might be tricky to get them all from one source.

Hi Rob,

Mick Taylor has produced the stompbox version you referred to though I don't think his current circuit includes the 'Fetzer valve' circuit that Piet includes. Mick publishes his work on the DIYstompboxes forum where his user name is Ice-9.

http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=104291.0

If you do build the kit, before you get started, make sure you check out the bulletins on Piet's site written by Steve Mitchell and myself regarding optimizing the FET circuit for better gain, reduced noise and improved tone. http://www.echotapper.nl/wp/?p=1584.

Phil.
