Don't overlook the Atlantis, I know some people couldn't get on with them, but a lot of European bands use them as well as Colin Pryce-Jones of The Rapiers ........... and he's always produced an authentic period sound.

I agree to an extent Alan, but at a recent gig in Ripley, I am reliably informed that Colin's sound was very disappointing, using the Atlantis . . . . . . :|

I tend to use a low fi tone. Shrill echoes don't sound right to me...

It varies, I use my ears and my own judgement.

In July 2007 I attended a concert in Calais with the Rapiers. Colin Pryce-Jones used an Atlantis and his sound was excellent (it wasn't his own Atlantis, but one borrowed from a French fan).
In May 2008 I attended a concert in Vif with Bruce Welch's Shadows. Phil Kelly used an Atlantis, and his sound was excellent.

Perhaps someone knows - Up to which year did the Shadows use the Meazzi? Were all the pre-Burns pieces (to end-1963) recorded with Meazzi drum echoes?

Thank you in advance.

Hi Andy,

The Meazzi Echomatic 1 was used from Apache in 1960 probably up to Blue Star in Feb 1961. The Echomatic 2 was then used up to the start of the Burns period, probably until The Miracle in July 1964. It was thus used with Burns guitars on most or all of the tracks of the Dance With The Shadows album.

Regards,

Paul.
