Bravo Gégé !!! A couple of years ago I dubbed Gégé as the "French Onk" (I think most of you know what I mean :D) . . . and that is what he is. I hope he joins this forum.

Gégé is better at getting "that sound" than at writing in english !

We don't mind a posting in French - would love to hear from GeGe, especially on how he set up to achieve his sound.

Kind regards,
Terry

Perhaps you could translate for him, Didier. Your English is impecable.

Just had a phone talk with Gégé, he gave me some details about the gear he is now using.

Strat with maple or rosewood neck, depending on tunes (both with CS54 PUs).
Home made bass cut passive filter, similar to the Ariab Mk 1 or Charlie Hall's "cutting edge" filter, but with more cut.
Rocktron Prophesy preamp with a Q20 in the send/return loop for echoes.
Behringer Ultracurve for EQ.
TC Electronic Gforce for a very slight reverb.

All of this direct to PC for recording, or through the AC30 (He is not currently using the Line 6 Pod XT).

Not sure you would get the same sound, using the same equipment. The problem is to find the right settings...

He is currently working on "Geronimo" (with a Burns Marvin)...

Hi Didier...why does Gege use the bass cut filter...doesn't that alter the sound drastically, meaning almost no bass end?

A bass cut filter does act like a bass tone control, it only cuts the very lower bass with little noticeable direct effet on tone.
Such a bass cut filter exists in the vibrato channel of AC15 and AC30, and there are many clues that Hank used this channel in the early years, even when not using the vibrato.
It's likely more the resonance and phase shifts brought by this kind of filter which explains its influence.
Charlie's "Cutting Edge" is a passive 4 sections RC filter, giving a theorical 24 dB/oct cut. We have no details about the Ariab, but it's probably similar.
When Gégé and Patrice Bastien started to work on "that sound" nearly 10 years ago, they discoverd this feature, and such a filter has been part of Patrice's PB Box since the first model back in 2000 (among other things).
The one now used by Gégé is similar to Charlie's one, but with more sections.

Of course, contrarily to what some people believes, such a filter is not enough alone to get "that sound", but it's part of it.
