Zoom G5 or G3x

Postby jb59 » Fri Oct 25, 2019 7:37 am

Ross Hall patches are better on a G5 than on a G3x?
Because I do not see posts with a Zoom G5 on the site.
thank you in advance
Good day to all

There isnt a lot of difference to be honest. The main reason people use the G3 is because they were more popular and easier to source.

I'd go with that Steve.

I have the G3X with Ross Hall's patches. A nice piece of hardware, easy to use and
Ross's patches are, in my opinion, well worth the initial cost of £80.00.

I have recently acquired a G5. I'm still working my way through 297 different patches
that come with the G5 and may find the need to install Ross Hall's patches on this also.

Apart from the fact that the patches for the G5 have two extra, ( I think ), the wisdom
of buying and loading the patches on the G5 is up for debate.

It could be that the hardware could show an advantage over the G3. The ""Boost" button
certainly makes 'em sit up and listen.

In all of this I haven't answered the initial question. Apologies for that.

If anyone wishes to send me £80.00 I'll gladly purchase Ross Hall's patches, put them onto my G5
and post a sound file from the G3X and G5 for you to judge for yourselves.

In the meantime I can do a reasonable version of Roobard and Custard.

Cheers, Alan.

Thank you for your answers, I asked this question because I have not seen mp3 recorded with a G5 zoom on the site and I would have liked to listen.

Small question: I have a quadraverb GT with EFTP patches the sound of G5 zoom with EFTP is more or less good?
Thank you for your answers.
cordially
Joel

Hi Joel

I have the Zoom G3, G3X and G5, Halls echo.
The main difference between th G3 and G5, is the fact that the G5 has a boost function with tone control, which comes in handy for live work, this boost has a tube valve, which is supposed to give a warmer sound. This feature do not work when recording.
All the units can be used directly for recording.
I have the G3 in my live board, mainly because I need space for other pedals as well, and it sounds very good.
I enclose a recording with the G5.
Guitar straigth in to the G5, no other effects, echo vox longtom 1, directly from G5 to the PC/audacity, no EQ or other effects added.
