Hi All,

Who can tell me more about the EQ that the Shads (read;Hank) are using. I mean the Smiley one, what are the HZ( or, K) -points?? And on which point do I do the dent and how deep??.
I use the Pro Q-2 EQ from Fabfilter and have made a Smiley, but it isn,t the Shads sound yet. Who can tell me more about this ???

Bye for now

Fred

Hi Fred
I don't think the "smiley" curve will be the right for this. Please have a look at this video

Looks like Ronnie Gustafsson uses a Boss GE-10 equaliser with the following settings :

32, 62, 125 and 250 : -12 dB
500 : 0 dB
1K, 2K : +12dB
4K : 0 dB
8K, 16K : -12 dB

Level : 0 dB

The Boss GE-10 graphic equliser can be difficult to find, it's long been discontinued, and second hand ones can be very expensives. The MXR M108 seems to have the same characteristics, and could be a replacement for a little over £100 : http://www.thomann.de/gb/mxr_m_108.htm

Those settings on that graphic are a step in the right direction if you plugging straight into a mixing desk but are too severe if going into a Vox amp.
The Zoom G3x or G3 has a similar Graphic EQ on board which can be patched in if desired, I've tried it and it works, but through my amp don't need to use it. :)

Didier; I had just bought the up-grade from Pro-Q last month. That must do the trick also ???

I Know nothing about this product, but looking at its characteristics, it certainly could do the job.

Loking closer at Ronnie Gustafsson's video, I realised that his seetings were not quite those I first reported, it's rather :

31, 62 : -12
125, 250 : -10
500 : -2
1K : 0
2K +6
4K +8
8K, 16K : -12

Ronnie uses two different lots of settings one for the early stuff and another for the later top boost tunes I believe. He uses the Normal channel of an AC30 which is set all flat on eq controls. Here is what I got for your info.

Freq 31Hz 62Hz 125Hz 250Hz 500Hz 1k 2k 4k 8k 16k

Pre 1963 dB -12 -12 -9 9 -3 6 6 0 -12 -12

Post 63 dB -12 -12 6 3 -6 0 9 7 -12 -12
