I throw the towel in.
They moan about the £30 a night charge.
I find a great back room at a pub but it's upstairs, that's no good.
I get another room at a different pub,but they don't like playing to the punters in there.
I give in.

Been there Ecca - many times :(
I even tried to introduce a system whereby every complaint had to be accompanied by the complainant's proposal/ suggestion for resolving it.
Didn't make a ha'porth of difference. :x :x :x

I can imagine why some players don't want an "audience" other than Club members. Its all down to their personal perceived playing standard rather than anyone elses.
There will always be mixed abilities in any organisation and club and standing up (or sitting) in front of people and playing can be nerve-wracking and some just dont want to do that. To them, GWWMC gives them the "comfort zone" they need so we shouldnt dismiss it out of hand, otherwise we end up with an Eliteist Club
However - True, £30 is daft for a Tuesday night. The three weeks Hankies are there is worth £90 to them and as a 'penny poor' club it is welcome revenue. Their alternative is for an empty room and no money. Perhaps half the amount can be negotiated OR how about meeting only TWICE a month, say First and Third Tuesdays?
If we use a "pub" then the issue of Backline rears its ugly head. We are used to EVERYONE bringing their amp and set-up and it looks like PMT Music in Brum on some nights. Sensibly, that cant happen if we go to the Pub. A standard backline (or two) would have to be made available and that would have to be at the good grace (and always is - thanks Roger) of certain Club members.
MY vote would be for the Pub.
cheers

O.k. Then,

the pub with upstairs room, how many stairs are there, perhaps we should test it out as well.

Bearing in mind Keith of course..

If I were the management at the club in Great Wyrely, I think I'd not want to lose the beer revenue,
and ask for a possible token payment of say a fiver a night towards the electric..

And the other Tuesday(s) at the pub?
