Thanks Last year when I bought my Strat there it was a choice between a new Roadworn or the Sunburst and I didn't have to think twice. I wanted it to look new and I'll be devastated when the sunburst gets its first scratch.

Well, that's the first convincing reason I've heard for buying a relic, Rosemary - you don't have to worry about that first ding! Then again, imagine buying a relic and then accidentally having it refurbished!

That's true but are those old Strats still playable with all the rust on the saddles? I've never seen a really old one before and there were big patches of missing paint too. I had a feeling the fretboard might have been newer though.

I believe that DID happen to Eric Clapton. Story I heard was he took the neck off Blackie which was fretworn etc but just the way he liked it to have something done on the neck - maybe trussrod - and it was sent away to Fender. They, seeing who it was from decided to do a complete job on it and totally made it "as new" - Mr C was not amused.
