Playing guitar after heart surgery

I wondered if any members have had heart surgery, and how long afterwards they could play guitar again. I had double heart valve repair at the end of March, and still have difficulty in lifting my Strat and even more so my Les Paul Junior!

Hi Stephen,
I spoke to a Shadows guitar playing friend of mine - who isn't a member on here - who had a heart valve repair two years ago, he said you are looking at about 6 months depending on the time spent in hospital.

He said for every week in hospital it takes about month of recovery.

Regards, Baz.

Thankfully last year purchased a lightweight Vox MV50 amp.
Likewise in my case after major cancer bowel surgery, its a case of slowly going about things as best you
can when feeling up to it.

By an incredible coincidence, one of my best mates is currently in hospital not at all well, and awaiting keyhole surgery for a heart valve replacement. He's a guitarist, I've been in many bands with him, he played guitar on one song on Alice Cooper's last album. I gather recovery time is about 2, 3 months. Knowing him, he'll pick up a guitar long before that! I doubt that a surgeon would recommend playing in a band for at least three months. Probably much longer.

Had a quad heart bypass back in 2002, Didn't play guitar then, but has never been a problem with any manual work! (so far!)
