In the 1965 film "The Heroes of Telemark", actor Anton Diffring ( german born, playing a german) delivers to actor Kirk Douglas (USA born, playing a Norwegian),
the line "the compliments of the season".
In December I quite often remember this scene, because I think the phrase to be stylish, without being too pretentious.
So, may I please be permitted, in my reply to this seasonal post, and to the members of this forum (who have entertained me for many years) to say:-
The Compliments of the Season.
