I remember this from junior school, it's a song called 'Just another Guy' written by Neil Diamond and recorded by Cliff Richard as the b side to 'The minute you're gone' in 1965. It's rarely heard and the compilation albums I've seen don't include it. It's one of his better recordings..any thoughts?

Yes, I agree. I thought it was much better than the A side, because at the time it was released I was 19 and full of unrequited love for a girl. I thought the lyrics were very appropriate so I sent them to her.

She never replied and my love remained unrequited until the next girl came along!

have you heard Cliff's new album? There was a copy on sale in Morrisons...doing well for someone born in October 1940 !... so many of his generation have fully retired or passed away..

Hi. Thought you might like to know this song is on Cliff's CD called Rare B-Sides 1963-1989. This CD was originally part of Cliff's box set that came out in 2008. The contents are now available as separate, individual CDs. It might be in stock on Amazon, eBay, or Leo's Den. I checked Victor Rust's book, and The Jordanaires are doing the backing vocals. I always wondered who it was, as to me it sounded like possibly The Everlys and certainly not like The Shadows.

Cheers,
Donna

Very interesting thread. I hadn't heard this track before, probably because The Minute You're Gone is not the sort of record I was buying in those days.

(Purely for site tidiness, I have moved the thread to The Lounge because it is not about The Shadows.)

I believe Just Another Guy was one of Neil Diamond's first material "earners," thanks to its B-side royalties via The Minute You're Gone. It also had some success in its own right in a couple of international territories where Cliff was popular.
