Roger Hayoz "Rodger's" - 23.09.1946 - 16.03.2023

We mourn the loss of our dear friend Roger Hayoz, who left us forever on 16 March 2023 after a short stay in hospital.
Roger was an extraordinarily versatile and talented musician, who always amazed us with his knowledge and skills. In his own recording studio in Arconciel, Fribourg, he was able to indulge his hobby at will and treat us to his many recordings in his very own style.
Roger was also a gentleman of the old school, who was always there for everyone with his kind and helpful manner. He leaves a painful gap, the loss will be with us for a long time. We are left with the great memories of the last 17 years that we were able to experience with Roger.
Roger experienced the beginning of the Beat and Rock'n'Roll era at first hand and gained his first live experiences as early as 1960. As a guitarist, he was mainly active in French-speaking Switzerland in formations such as "Les Sphynxs", "Les Etoiles Filantes" and the "Moonglows Combo". As an accomplished all-round musician, he also performed on stage with greats such as Arlette Zola, Eliane Dambre, Claude Francois and Joe Dassin. Before joining Joeland Plus, he played bass in the Shadows cover band "Norroc" until around 2008.
After that he joined us as a bass player, at the same time as Ulle Bayer on drums. As a result, we were able to delight the Shadows community at numerous festivals throughout Europe as Joeland Plus. Concerts followed in Austria, Germany, Italy, Holland, France, England and Switzerland and we were able to count on a loyal fan base. Unfortunately, many dear friends and musicians left us during this time, including Brian Licorice Locking, ex-bassist of the Shadows and Cliff Richard, with whom we played some concerts together, who died in October 2020. Especially Roger and Brian had a deep friendship for many years.
An emotionally moving funeral service took place on 20 March. The church in Arconciel, including the gallery, was filled to capacity. With touching music, video clips and speeches, Roger's last great honour was paid and farewell was said.
Our condolences go to his wife Nicole, his daughter Marjorie and their families.
R.I.P. Roger - we will never forget you!
