Very sad news. I have most of his early albums in their original vinyl format.

Sad news indeed. I've seen him a few times and have been an admirer of his since I was about six when I played Rebel Walk on the back of my grandparents' copy of Because They're Young on their little Dansette record player. He was a big influence on Hank! I could talk for hours about my love of the music of Duane Eddy...

Arthur Moir(of the Duane Eddy Circle) says that Duane 'passd away peacefully last night' (meaning Tuesday 30th). Duane continud his career into his eighties, with many stars wishing to have him as guest (one of the last must have been the Going Home track for Mark Knopfler). I can only think of Shazam as a tune of Duane's that The Shadows covered, although Brian was in the Wildcats when they covered Duane's version ofTrambone from the Twangs The Thang album.

Gee, Duane is no more... I remember hearing his music for the first time in the eighties as a kid via a cassette of the 1979 album with new versions of his greatest hits. He also did a great album of Bob Dylan hits. About twenty years ago, I got hold of the two major box sets from Bear Family Records, covering all his recordings from the Jamie and RCA labels. Of course, he also did a duet with Hank on "Pipeline". Having seen him on TV, I think he was a very modest and friendly man. Rest in peace Duane...

RIP - Like Hank after him, the first unique electric guitar sound?

I'm fairly sure that the Bear Family CDx5 box set ("Twangin' From Phoenix To L.A.") contained Jamie masters - releases of the Jamie stuff here in the UK were on Decca's London American label. As capacious and well-filled as it was, that box-set stopped short of covering Duane's work for the RCA Victor label from mid-1962 onward (eg, Dance With The Guitar Man).

RCA, of course, also had a UK release deal with Decca by the time that Duane was recording for them.

What a loss Duane's passing represents. He was certainly my first guitar hero, the 10-yr-old me mesmerised by the best guitar 45 of the 1960s: Because They're Young / Rebel Walk. I can't say I fully understood Rebel Walk at the age of 10 (it's a fairly subtle and clever musical arrangement, whether it sounds like it or not), but that divine A-side was just captivating. The very first record I ever really liked and wanted to own.

I met Duane very briefly at winter NAMM in January 2012. He was signing giveaway photos at the Fender suite. Addressing him as Mr Eddy, I told him that I'd been a fan for over fifty years and of what a star role he and Because They're Young had played in awakening my musical interests when I was ten. That photo he signed, plus a photo of me looking on while he signed it, are still treasured possessions.

I'd have uploaded a photo but the board quota has been reached (whatever that means). Here's a perfectly safe link to it: https://ibb.co/23MjC5y

It could almost have been Jet playing bass on Rebel Walk! :)

The RCA-era recordings were on another boxed set...Deep in the Heart of Twangsville.

At the time of Duane's Road Trip album (with Richard Hawley) from 2011, he had another unreleased LP 'in the can'...which an attempt by 'crowdfunding' to get released didn't work. I wonder if that will ever see the light of day...

I was indeed referring to the box set "Twangin' From Phoenix To L.A. – The Jamie Years" from 1994, which contains all his recordings from 1956 to 1962 from mainly the Jamie label, but also those on the EB X. Preston, Ford and Gregmark labels and the box set "Deep In The Heart Of Twangsville – The Complete RCA Victor Recordings" from 1999, which contains all his recordings from 1962 to 1965 from the RCA label.
