Great strings ... CHEAP!

Postby David Martin » Tue Nov 10, 2009 11:05 am

I've started playing bass for a rock band using my Gibson Thunderbird, and decided, as it had very old strings to change them, and was then horrified by the price of new bass strings. So I went onto http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/ and found their own brand - Legacy - at £7.95 (http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/strings/ ... tar/legacy), so I ordered some, expecting that they would be offshore manufactured... turns out that they are made in England by Rotosound (the packing slip gave it away...) and... they are excellent!!

Off to try the guitar strings now...

Hi David,

Good to hear you're delighted with the new bass. It's always a bit of a worry until you've tried them at the coalface. Can I ask what amp you use ?

I was determined to keep my rig small to fit into my room at home, so I bought one of these http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Genz_Benz_Shuttle_3.0_10T_Combo.html Carry in one hand, huge sound, tiny form factor... and when I started with the rock band, I added the 1x10 extension cab... We have a loud drummer and guitar players with 4x12 Marshall rigs, and I can blow the lot of them out of the water in terms of volume, and get an amazingly wide range of tone too... and I can still carry the whole rig easily - combo in one hand, extension cab in the other and both very light...

Can I also mention how pleased I have been with the advice and service I get from Bass Direct? Spot on every time... worth dealing with a specialist.

You wouldn't bring the rig to Warwick one day would you David? :)

On the subject of cheap. Maybe not everyones cup of tea, but ebay are selling B stock Ampegs BA600 115's for £499 including post. It's a combo 600 watt hybrid (valve preamp), 15 inch speaker combo and weight is a reasonable 50 llbs. I have played through one and at this price it is an impressive amp.
