The voltage supply on the diagram as per Amarandadadadadada is 15-0-15 DC.
Yours appears to be single ended.
Is it the same circuit ?

No it's not, it's a maplin amplifier board.

There's no information on specs for the preamp board
but I would expect it to be a fairly low input impedance
say, 10 - 50k ohm, which will damp the guitar output.

As it's a stereo preamp you might try having the channels in series - ie connnect the guitar into say the left input, then connect the left output to the right input, then right output to power amp. I think I installed one of these preamps on my record turntable. I'll have a look and see if I can find the circuit diagram and see if that's sheds any more light

Thanks for that suggestion. It makes very good sense. But unfortunately it didnt make any difference appart from the sound. The only difference I noticed is there is now a sound that can only be described as wind blowing around a microphone. (at a low volume) AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! Its driving me crazy!
