Wireless Instrument Systems

Hi All,

Has anybody had any experience of "AKG WMS 40 PRO Flex Instrument Set EU1 Wireless Instrument System" or "Sennheiser Freeport Instrument Set Instrument Wireless System". They are both around the same price (£130), and I wondered which was best value for money, or even if they work effectively.

I have been using an AKG WM instrument Radio system (the Bug) for about 2-3 years. I find it excellent & have no problems with it at all. Mine cost me £75 new, when 'Sound Control' were having a special offer. With a Duracell battery in the transmitter, it lasts me about three gigs. For the freedom of movement & less risk of tripping over cables, damaging jacks etc., I would not go back to cables. I have noticed no discernible difference in the sound of the guitar.

As good as these wireless units may be........if playing live, make sure you have a spare regular guitar lead handy on stage!!!!!!!!!!

We did a special cinema theatre concert gig a few months ago, playing as a Shads tribute band before the screening of Summer Holiday film...after the introduction to Apache as the opening tune- drums intro, then me on rhythm guitar, then the bass....and SILENCE from the lead guitarist's USA Strat, Vox amp and expensive echo unit....flat battery!!!!

Nice as these gadgets are...always keep the signal path as simple as possible!

I always put a new Duracell AAA in before a gig. Then I can use any charge that's left over for rehearsals etc.

These wireless units do seem to go through batteries very quickly, even the Duracell type.

To get round this I bought a set of 4 rechargeable batteries and a charger which can recharge 4 at the same time. They seem to last as long as a Duracell and I reckon I've recovered the cost already. What's more, I always have a spare charged battery to hand.

just got a mailing from Maplins today.
They are doing a guitar wireless system for £99.99.
The brand is "Prosound" but it looks like a Samson Airline to me.
Bear in mind that Hank and Bruce used Samsons for the last tour.

Both I and our rhythm guy use Samsons and weve never had any problems yet.

Looks almost identical to the Samson Airline System, apart from colours and graphics, but the straight bug shown probably won't fit the angled jack socket on a Strat........OK for a Burns, though.

I've been using a Samson for a few years, now and find the single AAA battery in the bug lasts for 3 full gigs easily and the receiver runs off a regulated power supply........Sound quality is also pretty good, just a bit more toppy than a cable, but that can be EQ'd out.

I finished up going for the T.BONE TWS 16GT 863 Mhz from www.thomann.de.

If anybody is interested I will post some sort of review when it arrives and I've had a play.
