250K vs 500K

Postby franklin » 24 Oct 2009, 12:04

While I was changing the pick ups on my Marque I saw 500K pots instead of 250K, is that normal for singlecoils??
I thought, that 500K was for humbuckers and 250K for singlecoils. Am I wrong about that?
What is the difference between 250K and 500K?

Hi there!

500k pots are usually used for humbuckers because they allow more treble in their "full on" state, 250k tames the "harshness" of some single coils... so that might calm your Marquee down...

Having said that, Fender Noiseless pickups are usually mater with 500k pots and they sound really thin!!
