Vox Echo Tape Model SV

Postby buckshot » Fri Oct 09, 2009 1:29 am

G'day All,
Can anybody help me with the schematics for this 66-'67 Vox Echo Machine SV Model.
Accordingly, can anyone tell me the positions of the 4 valves that are used in it. I just removed them from my unit and find 2 are Brimar ECC82's and 2 are Brimar ECC 83's , now I am not sure in which position they go back in ( yes I know I am a dumbo!!!!!!!)
regards

I've not heard of the SV model but if you post a photo or email one to me then I may be able to help.

Hi Buckshot - I was hoping that the model you have would have a similar layout to the LongTom / ShortTom models in which case I could have helped but unfortunately it is not.

Hi,

If they are all ECC types then they should work in any position, the main difference between
82 and 83 being the gain factor, the bottom one in the picture looks to be the
bias oscillator.

In the long and short tom models the ecc82 is used as the record amplifier, so I would say that
the bottom valve should be an ecc82 as the bias oscillator is usually combined with the record
amplifier.

Hi Buckshot,

I have the same echo unit which I bought in the later half of the 60's.

I do not have schematics for the unit and never been able to find any, in fact this echo is not even mentioned in Jim Elyea's book on Vox. Nonetheless it was, and still is a nice little echo unit in working order.

The order of the valves based on your photo of the insides, from top to bottom (where the top is the front of the unit) is:-

1. ecc83 (12AX7) - (top of photo)
2. ecc83
3. ecc82 (12AU7)
4. ecc82

Hope this helps,
bruce, Sydney.
