It's not the preamp or poweramp settings what makes the sound. It's finally the loudspeaker that's colouring the sound.

Hi all,

On the basis that this thread is about the possibility of adding an EF86 channel to the XD, I have spoken to John Beaty of Blueberry Pie Electronics, and he's satisfied that it is a strong possibility, assuming that Fender have allowed enough oomph in the power transformer.

The relevant valve voltages will be there, and there's probably enough room in the cabinet to mount a small chassis.

As I suspected, he has a circuit diagram (he used to own an XD until recently), so he'll carry out some further investigations.

DIY won't be an option by way of a kit, because of the very high voltages involved, so as soon as John has completed his (theoretical) work, we can come up with some costs for the retrospective fit-out.

If there's enough interest, we can move on to the next stage.
