USB Audio interface.....

Postby ecca » Sat Mar 27, 2010 4:22 pm

Any recommendations ?
I recently bought a Tascam 122 which wouldn't work with Windows 7 and had to sell it.
I don't want to make the same mistake twice.
I just want to get my guitar and a mike into the computer, nothing fancy.
Cheers

How about this?

I use it to connect my hi-fi to my laptop... but I guess it may have other uses?

The Tascam 122 is discontinued, and replaced by the 122 MkII which should be Windows 7 compatible.
The M-Audio "Fast Track" might do the job.

I bought an Edirol UA-4FX it has the lot really, Midi, Mic/guitar in Effects inc compression going in which is very useful and lots more and the best thing is it does'nt need its own power it gets it from the USB and it comes with Sonar LE. You will find with any interface that once installed it will take over your computers sound card and some of them dont work with Audacity if you use that it's different to just plugging into a soundcard.
I have a spare U-Control UCA202 and used it till I got the edirol cos I wanted the Midi ports. It has an excellent sound. Check it out on Youtube. Also uses USB power. http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/UCA202.aspx if you want to try it out and experiment with it. You can have it for free if you don't just send it back no pressure.
Good hunting Tony

Lexicon Omega.
I have recorded 4 separate tracks (via a laptop at VSL) and remixed them when I got home. Cracking piece of Kit.
You can often pick them up on Ebay for about £75.

Hi Ecca,

Save your money and take a look at these babies
Alesis - USB guitar lead
Alesis - USB stereo line in, use with any mixer desk, will then get you your mike capability too or
Alesis - USB XLR lead for use any mike eg SM58 as a USB mike. You can't use studio condensers that require phantom power unless you have special power supply, but even that could be done too.

All these solutions negate the need for USB special card/box interfaces, and above leads are priced cheap at £ 19.99 to £ 29.99. All give CD quality WAV into PC at 44.1khZ. Amazing miniature electronics in the USB connector and no bulky dongle. Perfect for the gigging busy musician, and plug into any laptop for use with Cubase ( a pile of s*** ) or whatever you prefer , I use Audition.

I will be buying the mixer version, as that gives a USB after life for perfectly good legacy mixers.

No I'm not on commission, but backing tracks are always welcome LOL via PM
