I have that old paperback myself and it actually says 'flamingo red'- not pink, but some of these birds are what I'd call 'bordering on a pinkish colour'- that's magenta with a fair bit of white added... not like the original Strat.

I was always under the impression that the Fiesta Red was a car colour (or color even) of the period

It was, all the Fender Custom Colours (sorry, Colors!) were based on car paints, mostly General Motors, although many of them did not retain the original names.

Fiesta Red was from the 1956 Ford Thunderbird. A recent colour called sunrise, introduced on the Ka three or four years ago, is very familiar.
