I have heard several times a Bose L1 system, it gave good sound, but I wasn't totally convinced because of the lack of any stereo effects.

There are other makers proposing column speaker systems based on the same principle, sometimes with two columns.

Hi Didier,
I am looking for a lighter setup for my guitar and backing tracks.
I see what you mean regarding the stereo effect for backing tracks
But for my requirements I can manage with a mono setup.
Keeping the set up small and light.

These systems do seem to be the way to go.

Our club at Southend has been using a Bose L1 for a long time and the sound is great nice spread across the room etc.

I did a gig this last weekend with a singer and he used 2 of them for a stereo sound and in a big hall it really projected.

Thanks for your view on the LD Systems column pa.
I did look at the Maui 5, but the videos I watched mentioned it has to be charged up working off batteries
in lower column, Maybe I miss understood.
I will go back and have another look.
Are the columns as rigid as the Bose columns.
Thanks again.

The difference is, when you sell the Bose, you get most of your money back and there's a reason for that.
I got the very first Bose L1 system when it was introduced in 2005 and Justin saw me use it in Derby. Since then, everybody and their grandma have had a line array for sale.
Never once did it let me down and never once did I get any complaints or adverse criticism of my sound, why ? Because it's the best. You get what you pay for. ;)
I'm usually one for saving money on guitars, echos, amps etc because the budget stuff works, but your PA is your living, so you owe it to yourself to buy the best you can afford. :)

Hi Carl. What system do you (and anyone else) use to play your backing tracks? I’ve been using OneTrack for some time but it’s no longer supported by the designer.
Thanks. Dave

I don't own one, but I have been impressed by the Bose system after my band used one a couple of times when our bass player was away and unavailable for some gigs (he owns and runs our PA) and we had a friend of the band help us out on those occasions by playing bass for us and also supplying his Bose PA system for us to use.

However, it puzzles me that some folk use the Bose columns...then also use additional normal foldback stage monitors and large heavy sub- woofers, when they are not really always necessary due to the ability of the columns to effectively combine FOH plus monitor duties...sort of belt and braces approach I suppose...but seems to me to defeat the purpose and rationale for choosing to buy the Bose L1 and/or similar systems in the first place!?

Dave,
A couple of years ago for solo work I had an Ipad with an app called Sound Cue.
All the tracks were on separate button icons 25 to a page and 5 pages
each track had its own volume control to pre set before global locking.
They could be moved or played in any order.
I now use Cymatic Audio LP 16. Player unit.

John,
Thanks for your View on the L1 Compact,
I am still unsure yet.
I like the Compacts multi height settings.
The sounds of the LD maui11 and 28 were excellent but they stand too tall for the places I would be using them in.
I will be trying the L1 Compact next, But Justin mentioned that they have a lack of mids so I will have to
have listen when I go down.

Dave,
I understand your logic in buying and selling gear.
We would all be a lot richer with that in mind.
If I knew in the sixties what I know now, I should have saved the old gear which was good stuff
