Zero fret- opinions?

IMHO, a zero fret on guitars is a good thing...more accurate, and by not using the nut as the basis for tuning and action adjustments, the nut becomes primarily a retainer/guide for the strings only, without also needing to be critical to tuning and action setup etc in positioning, nut slot depth/height etc.
IIRC, without checking my memory, Gretsch, Rickenbacker and some other US made guitars have been fitted with zero frets in the past, and many British, European and Japanese guitars also came with zero frets as standard..I can't recall many if any Fenders or Gibsons so equipped..?
Any comments etc please?
