HI Stuart,
Some people say that the 50's 60's strat pickups have a more open sound, would you agree?
Do you think that the Strat plus you tried has an alder body?

Yes I guess that an open sound is a good description of the older strats.I think that as musical tastes changed and the overdriven sound of the late sixties and onward became more fashionable, the guitar manufacturers added more windings to their pickups to drive the amp harder but this gave an increase in bass and low mid frequencies with less of the upper frequencies - more like the humbuckers.
The Strat plus I tried I believe was an alder body. I cannot be sure but I think they were all alder bodied?? Anyone know?.
