Burns Shadows Bass

Postby alextintin » 03 Aug 2011, 07:29

Hi All,

I recently bought a 1967 Burns Baldwin Shadows Bass which sounds fantastic but needs a bit of TLC. It has a very poor refinish and I would like to return it to its original white colour with a professional refinish.

Can anyone therefore please tell me what the correct original white shade was ? For example, pearl white, or olympic white....or something different ?

Many thanks, Simon

Don't take this the wrong way, but unless you are professional re-finisher with access to some pretty specialised equipment, you aren't going to be able to do that.

That's because almost all Burns London guitars were originally finished in polyester rather than cellulose or similar. Re-finishing in polyester is certainly possible, but not simple or easy. For a professional re-finish, you'll need to trust the job to a professional with the right equipment and skills.

Is Eddie Cross Jnr still in the business, does anyone know?
