Played a Burns for first time

Postby roger bayliss » Thu Jul 15, 2010 12:56 pm

I had my first go on a Burns Marvin the other night at the Hankies club and played Shindig, Geni and something else I can't remember now but with 4 pints of Grolsh shandy within me I must say I really enjoyed the sound I got and thought I sounded a bit like the real deal even if I was plugged into the ef86 channel on my Heritage. Its Phil Wolsty's fault now I have got to play one again I got the bug... :D

Blimey Roger! A Burns "virgin"? At YOUR age??? To my mind they are the best looking solid electrics ever - apart from perhaps the new Double Six Apache (I want one!! ) The Marvin, and indeed, ALL Burns solids, were imaginitive and subtle re-takes on the other famous solids of the period. They took a basic idea and improved on it.
Cheers, Lionel

Is the burns tone the same in a good Marque or Batwing even ... he wonders any opinions or does it def have to be the Marvin ?

Following a short consultation with Al Bakewell, my financial advisor on all things musical, I have decided that the rental charge for the use of my Burns 40th Anniversary Hank Marvin will be three cheese cobs (one per tune). Please note that this was an introductory offer only. Further rentals of the same will need to be negotiated with Bakewell Musical Hire Ltd.

Phil (back from the sunny Costa Del Sol)

p.s. Next time remember that you are not supposed to play the guitar better than the owner :x
(ex-guitar player) - now a ukulele and ukulele bass player!
Update: After 10 years absence, now a born-again Hankie
