When you say nothing at all. Acoustic. Video

I Recorded Hank’s great version of this song (From Marvin at the Movies) on 15 Nov 2009 on the Stratocaster 4 years ago which was based on Ronan Keating’s version Played in the Key of G. This was before YouTube allowed HD uploads so the video is a bit naff !

My Son Andrew made a Backing Track of Alison Krauss’s version which is acoustic based so I thought I would have a go with a new Backing Track, a new arrangement and on an acoustic guitar this time in the key of D.

For those interested in guitars the one I used on this video is my 1960’s Gibson Dove which I bought in 1966 second hand from Guitar Village Shaftsbury Avenue London at age 16. I was earning £5 19s 6p a week as an apprentice for the GPO (Later to be the PO Then BT) the guitar cost £235 at the time which was a year’s wages - a fortune at the time. (do you remember HP ?)

The guy at the beginning, half way through and at the end of the video with the silly haircut and sideboards is me at age 20 in 1971 with the Dove some 42 years ago . Still a joy to play all these years later.

The BT is on my website available to purchase if anyone is interested – here is the link :- http://www.philmcgarrick.co.uk/CD2.html

Hope you like the instrumental version of Alison Krauss’s “When you say nothing at all”

Cheers Phil

Hi Phil
what a pleasure to wake up on this first day of Autumn to such a lovely piece of music and playing.
Wonderful sound to the Gibson too. "If only" I'd kept all my old 60's gear instead of flogging it all in 1975.
Beautifully played and as usual a super BT from Andrew.
Isnt it great to look back at all those old pics. Sometimes you want to say - "Is that really me?!"
cheers
Ian

Very cool Phil - I love that I can hear the sound of your fingers on the frets, it really makes all the difference... Beautiful guitar and wonderful photographs. I think you should re grow the ''tache for Movember - it looks great! Very Sweeney... ;)

Great backing track too...

Sending you best wishes always from Johannesburg,

Tony

Hi Alan - It can't be mirrors or the Gibson logo would be reversed -
You must be emulating Daniel Martin he plays well with the strings reversed. :o So did Hendrix

Hi Fred - Thanks so much for your nice comments always appreciated.

Hi Tony - Great to hear from you all the way from Johannesburg !! I hope you are all settled and enjoying life
in South Africa. You're still there and got the internet so guessing things are good. 8-)
Many thanks for your nice comments on this one - first time I've used the old Dove for a YT recording.
Yes the fashions in the early '70's were all flares and tache's

All the best... Phil
