Using Kinman Impersonator 54 V3 pickups on Bridge/Middle position.
From the album Cal which is a soundtrack album by British singer-songwriter and guitarist Mark Knopfler, released on 24 August 1984.
My son Andrew made the Backing Track for a friend so with his permission I thought I would record it. A very simple yet lovely tune.
It was also recorded by The Runaways under the title "The Road" from their album "Into The Vortex"
The BT is available to purchase and download from my website and the Tabs (Rough) will be there free to download.(When Andy finishes them)
Recorded using Alesis Quadraverb Q2 with EFTP echoes from the past patch 0-36 into soundcard and Cubase on the computer (no amp used)
Video made using 3x Sony SR12's and edited with the Cubase sound in Sony Vegas video editing software.

Hope you like "The Long Road"

Cheers Phil

This is a great tune. I've been playing live for years but never got around to doing a BT for it and now I don't need to - thanks Phil I bought yours and what a great job Andrew made of it, when my fingers get better I'll be able to practice it on my own.
Nice recording of your own too Phil, well done!

Hi Phil,

Like Dave I have just be purchased the BT and its been well made by Andrew. I bought the original when it came out and at the time I was the only person I knew who owned it or even liked it.

Your usual excellent playing and video production. The close up video shots will definitely help me start learning this one.

Hi Fred - Many thanks for the nice comment - Yes give it a go as you say it's a beautiful tune.

Hi Dave - Cheers for buying the BT :D - Up until recently I thought this was a song by The Runaways - I've been playing rhythm to this version with Gary Havis (The guy in the wheelchair) playing the lead for a few years, It was a big surprise to find out it was a Mark Knopfler composition. Hope your fingers get better soon and you can play again.

Hi Tony - Great to hear from you all the way from SA. And thanks for the nice comment on this - Yes all recorded in Cubase I'm getting the hang of it now

Hi Ian - Yes first time I've done a MK song - you can't count Local Hero as it was Hanks version :o
I haven't seen Mark play this one but knowing his style he probably used his fingers in place of a plectrum,
too late to try and change styles now. ;) Thanks for the nice comments - It's half term week so Andy had some time off made this one and finished another Hank one for me which I have been waiting for about 3 months !

Hi Jase - Many thanks for buying the BT :D I'm glad you know the original - The funny thing is on YT all the MK recordings are half a semitone flat so to practice it I had to detune another guitar and swap them when I made the recording. I wonder if the CD recording is concert pitch :?: The only problem I had with learning it was getting that ending riff in my head - Once Andrew tabbed that bit it all made sense. The rough tabs are on my website now.

All the best... Phil
