Star Wars Video

Postby Phil McGarrick » 01 Jan 2014, 10:40

I think everyone knows what Star Wars is all about. The Title music was written by John Williams - John Towner Williams, Jr. (born February 8, 1932) an American composer, conductor and pianist. He is considered to be one of the greatest film composers of all time.
Not to be confused with John Christopher Williams (born 24 April 1941) an Australian classical guitarist who played with the band Sky.

Anyway Hank Marvin made an album in 2000 – “Marvin at the Movies”
I’ve covered many of his tracks from this album but still a few left.
This is my cover of Hanks version of Star Wars – the added effects at the beginning and the end came from a good friend / guitarist Ross in OZ.

The Tabs are available and I found them to be spot on from Steve Gibb under the title “Theme from Star Wars”

The Backing track came from Marvin Mastertrax available as a CD from Tony Clout here:-

I used EFTP (Echoes from the past) on my Alesis Q2 patch 0-36 and a lot of EQ’ing in cubase to increase the treble and spacial echo to get somewhere near to Hank’s sound.

Not the most melodic song I’ve ever done but you have to remember it’s meant to be dramatic to go with the film.

Dare I say hope you like Star Wars theme. AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR to all who read this. Dated 1/1/2014
Cheers Phil

A happy new year to you Phil - that certainly looked tricky to play but you made a great job of it.

The added intro was a really good idea and the whole thing came together very well.

Well that certainly blew the cobwebs away!!
Loved the "playing in a cave" sound! - wonderful. Hank must have been messing with the knobs when he recorded the original.
Tricky playing as RogA says and as always, superbly executed.
What a good start to 2014.
Now then, Val - where's me bacon and eggs??!
Happy New Year Phil and all your extended family
cheers

Fabulous! And I love the part where you look up at the camera (1.48) with an expression that seems say, 'Jeez, I'm only halfway through' - at least, that's what I'd be thinking, with all that tricky timing!

Hi Roger - Thanks for the nice comments - I'm glad you liked the added bits beginning and end.
I've got 7 more to do to cover the whole album, might get there one day. :? . Happy new year to you.

Hi Ian - Yes Hank had a lot of top and spacial echo which does sound like it's recorded in a cave !
Hope I got somewhere near. Many thanks for the comments and Have a great new year !

Hi Noel - I think you read my mind at the halfway mark  Still at the end I did smile.. a bit :D
Many thanks for your nice comments. Happy new year to you.

All the best... Phil

Hi Phil, Happy New Year...

Cracking instrumental and what a pace. Reckon you had a new reverb for Christmas or played it in an underground bunker!! Whatever, the effect is great.

Cheers,
John

Thank you very much John and Fred for your nice comments.
Yes a few tweaks on the underground bunker settings in cubase to make it sound far away.

All the best... Phil
