Virgin + HD box set up - off topic.

Postby AlanMcKillop » Tue Feb 09, 2010 8:00 am

A friend is moving house to an area where Blueyonder/Virgin don't have supply lines, so their Virgin + HD Box will find a new home. :D Does anyone know if this can be set up without calling out an engineer? My thoughts were just insert my current smart card and make the obvious tv settings, but maybe there is more to it than that. Any advice/help would be welcome.

Hi Alan

The card usually has to be matched to the box.

I doubt that it will work in the way you suggest but
it may be that it can be made to work with just a phone call
to Virgin.

Interesting to know what happens.

Don't know about Virgin, but Sky certainly works by linking the card and the box.

Hi Alan, I think Virgin is a cable network, so I assume youre already cabled.
Most of these digiboxes are tied to a specific card once they are activated (meaning you couldnt use your card in a friends receiver)...however a phone call to the service provider should allow the change over to a new users card.
Be prepared to have things like serial numbers and software versions to hand when you make the call...it will be less hassle if you have it all ready to quote over the phone.
As far as setting is concerned it should just be case of plugging in the supply cable to the back of the unit.
The output will be scart/hdmi so no tuning in should be required.
