Could you describe Hank or Bruce as also being.......

Both Shadows guitar players have in their time been associated with some pretty interesting guitars.
Mainly Fender, Burns and Gretsch, probably others too for recording, so I was wondering if either player
actually had a guitar collection?
Many players do collect if guitar magazines are any indication of this.
So with guitars being tools of their trade, well, perhaps collecting may be a possibility.
Or is it as likely as if a plumber amassed a collection that featured the, Stillson wrench?

Simon

I know there exists an outdoor shot of Hank taken from an elevated position, looking down with his collection of instruments arranged in an arc behind him.

Of course, I can't find it, but no doubt another member will be able to post it!

I remember Hank saying in an interview that he has about 40 guitars. And that was ages ago!

Thanks, Chris, that is the picture I was thinking of, although my description of the presentation of the collection was not entirely accurate!

That picture was originally used in that year's tour programme (1986). I don't know how many of these guitars Hank took with him to Australia or how many he has since sold/acquired. More recently Hank has acquired a number of 'Maccaferri'-type guitars for his gypsy jazz work. He once said that his greatest fear was that after he died his wife would sell the guitars for what he told her he paid for them!

Like some of the other guitar legends, Hank's not afraid of parting with guitars. He gave his 2004 Burns Anniversary to JJ after the Final Tour, sold his 40th Anniversary Strat at around the same time (I've since played it), and sold the Scotsman Strat at auction for charity (alongside other guitars, I believe).

Bruce likewise isn't afraid to do the same. He said goodbye to his original Marvin a few years ago, I heard.

Does anyone know what happened to Hank's first guitar? The Antoria?

Forgive my ignorance, but who is JJ?

Cheers,
