Royal Gala 1966

Postby StanfordTuck » Thu Sep 05, 2019 10:02 am

Looking at the video on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtOwyaoxOMU.

Bruce seems to be absent and John is playing a 6 string guitar.
Question for the anoraks, what kind of guitar is this, because I have a copy of Rise and Fall of Fingle (or Fingel) Bunt,
which is played just before Visions, where I hear a form of rithmguitar and bassguitar together that puzzled me,
untill today.

HI

Bruce was ill.

It's Hank's Fender Bass VI. It's the same model as Jet used on Besame Mucho and Main Title Theme.

Hank still has it.

Regards

I didn't know that the video still existed for this. I assumed it was an ATV broadcast, since it was a Sunday night and they were the main "light entertainment" company of the two operating at the weekend. Presumably, Granada Ventures, as the inheritors of the ATV archive, have the whole production on VT.

One or two people recorded the audio off-air and The Shadows had played The Rise And Fall Of Flingel Bunt as a trio just before that announcement. It was issued on the Fremus (Italy) CD "Atlantis" in 1994. Here it is with the low EQ improved a little and in mp3 format:

Thanks Jim. Good to hear that again after all this time. What a thoroughly useful player John was!

Sorry there's no video available, although in my mind I can still see the performance.

I'm sure I've got Flingel Bunt from the same performance with John playing the Fender VI on a video somewhere....I know I've definitely seen before.
