The Shadows and The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra?

With all the recent albums featuring Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly, The Beach Boys, The Carpenters and Cilla Black with the Liverpool Philharmonic, wonder if there are plans to do do a similar project with the early Shadows back catalogue?

Personally I’d hope not. Of the few tracks of these type that I’ve heard I’ve not been that impressed. Crow barring a full orchestra into arrangements which didn’t leave space for one in the first place, or replacing what were perfectly good orchestral backings, doesn’t make for the most satisfactory listening experience. They just seem like a way for dead/retired artists’ management companies to wring a little more profit from The Machine while they still can.

This may not be my cup of tea either and talking of Norrie Paramor, his orchestra did an album of Shads stuff in 1965 called Shadows in Latin. Can't say that did anything to float my boat.

Of the orchestra added CDs Ive heard non were an improvement on the originals - including the added voice duet ones!

I had it on LP in the early/mid '80s. I liked it. I lent it to someone who was actually a classically trained pianist and she wasn't impressed. Oh well, she was a bit of a musical snob. But I thought it was pretty good.

To be honest, I always thought the Shads should have done a version of Annie's Song with an orchestra, at about the 'String of Hits' period. I'll get me coat...

Maybe perhaps a brand new purely Orchestral album without the original Shadows soundtracks?
The BBC Concert Orchestra have given us a taster with their "Shadows Medley" from the Instrumental Classics album and their tribute to the guitar on "Friday Night Is Music Night".
