To my mind, Shadstrax is a brilliant CD because it contains nothing but original compositions by Shadows members from the whole Polydor era. No covers.

It arrived today but I was out so the postman put a little slip through the door. I'll pick it up from the sorting office tomorrow.

Got Shadstrax and played it. I might be wrong but i'm sure there's one or two original tracks missing. It also has liner notes from a certain Rob Bradford.

The following list sums up all fresh new compositions, released on Polydor between 1980 and 1989:
1. Fender Bender.
2. Midnight Creepin’.
3. Change Of Address.
4. Arty’s Party.
5. Outdigo.
6. The Fourth Man.
7. Hats Off To Wally.
8. Summer Love ’59.
9. Thing-Me-Jig.
10. Cowboy Café.
11. Spot The Ball.
12. The Shady Lady.
13. Life In The Jungle.
14. Cat ‘N’ Mouse.
15. No Dancing!
16. The Old Romantics.
17. You Rescue Me.
18. Over In A Flash. (Live 1982).
19. Elevenis.
20. Look Back On Love.
21. Johnny Staccato.
22. Turning Point.
23. Our Albert.
24. Pulaski.
25. Mountains Of The Moon.
26. Stack-It.
27. Shoba.
28. Captain Haddock Is Missing. (Live 1989).

Then there are two tracks written by others, but with an arrangement credit to group members:
1. Mozart Forte.
2. The Skye Boat Song.

And finally some fresh new compositions, not by the group, but written for the group:
1. Riders Of The Range.
2. The Modern Way.
3. Liverpool Days.
4. How Do I Love Thee.
5. Hammerhead.
6. The Saturday Western.
7. (I’m Gonna Be Your) Guardian Angel.
8. Can’t Play Your Game.
9. On A Night Like this.
10. A Heart Will Break Tonight.
11. Farewell My Lovely.

A total of 22 tracks originally recorded for and released by EMI Records were re-recorded by The Shadows for release on their Polydor albums. The 1983 mail-order only double album “The Shadows Silver Album” includes “Shadoogie”, the 1990 album “Reflection” includes “Riders In The Sky ‘90” and the entire 1989 album “At Their Very Best” features the remaining 20. Of these, the following were written by the group:
1. Shadoogie.
2. Shindig.
3. The Rise And Fall Of Flingel Bunt.
4. The Boys.
5. Theme For Young Lovers.
6. F.B.I.
7. Genie With The Light Brown Lamp.
8. Foot Tapper.
9. Geronimo.

These were written (as far as I can tell) for the group:
1. Apache.
2. Wonderful Land.
3. The Frightened City.
4. Dance On.
5. The Savage.
6. Guitar Tango.
7. Atlantis.
8. Kon-Tiki.
9. The Stranger.

The 2004 double live album “The Final Tour” includes seven vocals, written by the group for Cliff Richard of which six had not previously been released by them:
1. Please Don’t Tease.
2. In The Country.
3. I Could Easily Fall (In Love With You).
4. Gee Whiz It’s You.
5. Summer Holiday.
6. Bachelor Boy.

Apache and Dance On! were not written for the group.

Neither was Guitar Tango. The others on that list of nine might have been.

There will be more said about the subject in an upcoming episode of the podcast "We Say Yeah" (not the immediate next one).

Ah, Arty's Party and Over in a flash are missing from Shadstrax. Probably omitted due to the running time of the CD. You Rescue Me is also missing.

Do you have sales figures of the early Shadows albums/singles?
