JimN wrote:Pickwick is a longstanding British record company, specialising in licensed re-release material and speciality records such as the childrens' market. I have thirty-four record collection items on the Pickwick label dating from as far back as 1963 up to 2004. The later ones seem to originate mainly from the Polygram stable (hence the Shadows connection).

Each of those 16-track cassettes were originally issued on vinyl and on CD as well as musicassette.

To my knowledge, only the compilations "The Shadows Collection" and "Diamonds" were issued on LP. "Dancing In The Dark" was only issued on CD and cassette in early 1991 and already on CD in December, 1990 as part of the "A Special Collection" CD box set.

I purchased a double cassette in 1973 called The Shadows as Was which included their first two LPs on one cassette which was great at the time but unfortunately the cassette got damaged in the player but since then CDs made the redundant .

I have two compilation cassette's: "Dance On With The Shadows" from 1985, released on the MFP label in The Netherlands and "Driftin'" from 1987, released in the EEC. Also, I have Brian Bennett's solo album "The Ruth Rendell Mysteries Vol.II" on cassette and Hank Marvin's two cassette singles "We Are The Champions" and "Wonderful Land".

I have a cassette entitled The Hank Marvin Guitar Syndicate, which I just began to listen to for the first time in about 35 years. The sound is still good, but the first song lasts over seven minutes and couldn't be more boring. Made and printed in Great Britain by EMI Records in 1977.

I think the first track "New Earth (Parts 1 and 2)" (an original track written for Hank by Alan Hawkshaw) is one of the highlights of the album as it is, in my opinion, very atmospheric and mysterious. It could easily be used on a film soundtrack.

I also like 'New Earth', and so do some others - it has found its way to the ears of the rap/hip hop community as it has been sampled by none other than Jay-Z. I find it amusing that lots of *the kids* (I still am one, honest) are nodding away to Hank Marvin (and Brian Bennett of course, as 'Soulstice' has been pilfered by several people, most recently and notably Kanye West) :D
