I notice BBC3 are using Apache (not The Shads' version) for the musical background to their Christmas films' ad - just the first verse.

It is actually quite amazing how often Shads material is used on TV.

Heartbeat must have paid for a good few sets of strings from their soundtrack. Only last night, there were two tracks in a row; they must have been playing the Greatest Hits album at the girls night in.

An earlier episode which had the barmaid singing on stage featured a band who seemed to play Shads numbers rather than anything else. I presume it's a lot better for the incidental music to be instrumental so that it doesn't interfere with any dialogue.

Even without all the Shadows numbers, the backing music in Heartbeat is just superb.

When Eastenders was new to TV, The Shads' version of Apache always seemed to be playing on the Queen Vic's jukebox. Quite surprising as the series started 25 years after the disc's release.
