Live From Reading!!

Postby Amanda » Fri Nov 20, 2009 8:41 pm

Hi,

Yes it's me reporting live from the Children in Need Shadows Gig here in Reading!

The first band is on with a singer with the unlikely name of Rich Clifford!

He's just finished "The Young Ones"

I've just repaired an ac30 belonging to one band member as well as Justin's AC15!

Justin says Hi! by the way!

Film at 11!

Good luck with the gig - and with raising lots of cash.

Loved the reference to kentucky fried movie....'the popcorn you're eating has been p***ed in...film at 11!'

Amanda - if you can read this whilst you're there (on a Blackberry or something?) - say hello to my son James, who is doing the sound...

Hi All

I've just got back from the Reading gig - somewhat earllier than anticipated because about 10.30pm the fire alarm went off! There was no sign of a fire but, of course, the venue had to be evacuated. There was no panic and everyone congregated in the car park. The gig was already behind schedule so I guessed it would be abandoned and I came home: the fire brigade arrived just as I was leaving.

It was a great shame as it had been a successful and entertaining event. The two signed guitars were auctioned for over £1000 each (£1100 for the Strat and £1075 for the Burns Marquee, I think) but what put the icing on the cake for me was that I won the auction for the 50th Anniversary prototype strap. I gather one of our members from Scotland had put in a telephone bid but it wasn't enough (so, very sorry, Alan!)

Cheers.

Tony, you missed The Shadowers! It was a false alarm so we weren't oustide for long and the gig was quickly resumed.

Congratulations to Graham and his team who did a great job in organising the event and collecting around £8,500 for Children in Need.

Hi,

The amps saga, Justins 1960 AC15 was a pre-arranged repair
I arrived at the venue and set up "Amanda's Amp repair corner".

Opened up Justin's amp traced the fault and removed the necessary component
from my home made AC15 chassis to repair it (it was one of the parts I didn't take with me!)

So that was Justin sorted and I packed my tools, I nearly took them to the hotel, but as it turned
out it was a good job I didn't as one of the members of another band came up to me and asked me if
I'd look at his AC30 which had gone dead.

It turned out that the speaker leads had got tangled around the mains lead and had come off so a quick
dab of solder and all was well again!

Neither amps were in use during the gig when failure occurred.

The fact that the amps were both vintage Vox amps had nothing to do with the problems, as long as
these amps are well maintained they are as reliable as they ever were.

I got to see and take pictures of Phil Kellys rare 1960 AC30/4 TV front on an original JMI "tray stand".

The fire problem was annoying people grabbed guitars as they went out I ended up leaving everything inside!

A good night though!

Hi Derek,

I think it was "Geffers" Ac30 I repaired!

Anyway a good event, nice to meet up with people again and
meet Lesley for the first time - a great crowd!
